Looking back on 2020
What a strange year this has been! Like everyone 2020 will be a year we will never forget. With the main topic for conversation Covid 19 has dominated almost everyone’s conversations and made changes in what used to be our normal lives.
No one could have ever imagined such an event non least the volunteers and people of Glaslough village where less than five month previous to the start of the pandemic, were celebrating winning the National Tidy Towns competition on September 30th 2019 after 41 years!!. What a jubilant and exciting time this was. In the days and weeks that followed visitors flocked to see the village and groups of tidy towns committees from across the country requesting tours of Ireland Overall Tidiest Towns. Indeed, at one point there was even a short visit from the now Taoiseach Michael Martin! This was a well-deserved celebration and wonderful time for residents, volunteers and business owners and one that had been hoped for,for many years. Monaghan County Council held a civic reception in November 2019 and the National Tidy Towns Regional Awards ceremony was also held in the Oakland Centre which invited all prize winners from the North west and west to collect their prizes.
Glaslough winning trophies were brought to both St Mary’s and Billis National schools and to other events following the win. As the months progressed plans were put in place for 2020 with great excitement. The build up to Christmas 2019 was wonderful as the tidy towns invested in lots of additional decorations for the village and even supplied small living Christmas trees around the village which residents looked after throughout the season. After the Christmas season the next big event was the St Patricks day parade in Monaghan town. A wonderful float was prepared during January and February by volunteers and the CE participants but unfortunately this was not to be as the cancellation of the parade was just the beginning of the pandemic and lockdown.

Also in March the committee started the Close Knit Community group an online group which aimed at knitting as many scarves as possible to donate to the homeless charities and the care homes and front line workers. They also applied for a Guinness World record for the greatestnumber of scarves donated by volunteers! Over 350 people got involved from across Monaghan and further afield. Approximately 1000 scarves were knitted and crocheted by the volunteers for this project. This gave so many something to do during the lockdown and beyond. People were so thoughtful and delighted to be involved and the standard of craftmanship was second to none. People of all ages got involved and there was great craic and banter between members on the online forum.
|
Throughout the lockdown the committee were very limited in what they could do but simply communicated like many though Zoom and WhatsApp calls and messages and through social medial platforms. Volunteers managed to keep the village clean, tidy and as attractive as ever working mostly on their own managing the specific areas allocated. Younger members helped some of the cocooners with shopping and other activities at the time also and free masks were handed out to residents also. Some other projects this year included relocating the community library to the old phone box in the diamond area of the village. The construction of a gazebo booth for the junior/senior tidy towns to operate from. The repainting of the Oakland Centre, installation of the ramps and handrails were joint projects with the GDA and the construction of a new handball wall in the Oakland sports courts, painted by Ann Mc Kenna. This not only added a new facility for residents but it depicts all the community groups in the village. The sports courts were also resurfaced during the summer which was funded under the sports capital grant.
One of the main highlights of the year was Nationwide’s visit to the village and the airing of the wonderful program that followed on July 22nd. This really boosted the tourism in the days that followed and helped to put Glaslough firmly on the map. A local man also donated 20 beautiful chestnut trees to the tidy towns committee during the summer. These will be planted in October at locations around the village and the St Mary’s NS. A New wildflower meadow/garden was created in the viewing area over the lake in the Village Green estate. This project was managed by Helen Irwin, committee member and director/resident. Other projects included a BioBlitz which was held on the estate and funded under the Catchment Care scheme a cross border initiative with Glaslough tidy towns and Castle Leslie estate. These projects seek to promote and add to the local biodiversity in the area. A small team of volunteers managed growing all the village flowers throughout the lockdown which were then donated to Ardbanagher, Lisbanagher, Culbanagher, Tullyree, Cottages, Village Square/Green estates and other areas throughout the village.
Like every other tidy towns group around the country, many of the volunteers missed the camaraderie and the coming together to work on projects, activities and other events and certainly.Certainly the cancellation of President Michael D Higgins visit to Glaslough to unveil the tidy towns winning plaque was a real disappointment however hopefully at the end of the pandemic next year he will be able to visit and 2021 will be a much better year for everyone.

information meeting on local authority waters programme
The River Basin Management Plan for Ireland 2018 – 2021 (RBMP) sets out a new approach for the protection and management of water quality in our rivers, lakes, estuaries, groundwater, and coastal waters. This RBMP is underpinned by a strong evidence base from the work of the EPA, Inland Fisheries Ireland and local authorities in assessing the status of water quality in individual waterbodies. The process of developing this RBMP involved extensive input from public bodies working with water and opportunities for public and stakeholder involvement.
The Local Authority Waters Programme will host public meetings in these priority areas for action before any field work commences to inform the public and stakeholders of planned activities on local water bodies identified for further assessment. These meetings will commence in October 2018 and continue over the lifespan of the RBMP. Meeting details will be advertised in local press, radio and on social media.

Festival feature # 3 and 4
Festival Feature #3 & #4
Wines Direct are a family run, Irish company and will be supplying the organic wine and prosecco for Making Waves. As it will be on tap, there will be less packaging naturally and therefore less waste. It all comes in kegs rather than glass bottles so it is more compact and means there is more storage room when transporting and so less trucks out on the road using up fossil fuels and polluting the air. We also won't have to spend all the next day throwing bottles into the bottle bank and the kegs are totally reusable again once empty. Makes sense to us!
Check out their website for a full range of the artisan wines they offer with lovely organic and vegan options available there too. Is it wine o'clock yet? https://winesdirect.ie/
Festival Feature #4:
Old Carrick Mill will be supplying us with the gin for Making Waves. It is an artisan distillery, operating from an old flour mill dating back over two centuries located only up the road in Carrickmacross. The water it is distilled from is filtered through good oul Monaghan limestone and each bottle is hand filled, signed and numbered to give you that personal touch.
Voted 'Ireland's Best Gin & Tonic' we couldn't be more excited to have Steven's gin wetting our whistles.
Check out their website for more of a back story and to drool over their tempting concoctions.

making waves music festival feature #2 BLASTA

Blasta or World Food Porn is the love child of well-liked Monaghan couple, Seany Mc Kenna and Nikita McCrory. After travelling the world for several years together, they picked up many delicious recipes along the way and a craving to bring that sense of adventure home with them.
What started as a food blog developed into several food trucks which have catered to parties and festivals the length and breadth of the country. With their new headquarters in O'Neill's Garden Centre & Cafe, Glaslough, they only have to walk a few metres to pick some of the fresh ingredients for their tasty Mexican themed food. They are great advocates for choosing local produce and to top it all off they use recyclable and compostable food containers and cutlery.
Voted ‘Best Street Food in Ireland 2018’ by Yes Chef Magazine, their tex-mex delights are nothing to be sniffed at. This lovely pair are always up for a challenge and are all round delightful members of the local community. We are already excited for their tasty tacos at Making Waves.
Check out their Facebook page or the website for more information or to book them. They cater for private events too so give them a call when you are planning your next shin-dig!

Making waves festival feature #1

The event this year is NOT BYOB but never fear, as we have a full bar and coffee cart run by Glaslough Tidy Towns to accompany the gin and prosecco bars. All "plastic glasses" used will actually be 100% biodegradable too.
Louise Duffy, Gareth Corrigan, Emmalisa Duffy and all at GTT have been doing tremendous work behind the scenes to bring this festival to you all. GTT are current national Tidy Towns gold medalists and this year marks the 40th anniversary of winning the Overall Tidy Town award in 1978. They have pioneered so many wonderful projects in Glaslough over the years and their community spirit is admirable. You only have to drive through the picturesque village to realise what incredible work they have put in to maintaining it's beauty.
On the night all proceeds from the bar will aid GTT in continuing with these amazing voluntary endeavours so you can relax in knowing you can have a few beers all for a good cause (as if we need an excuse!)
To top it all off, the Junior Tidy Town folk will be on hand at all our waste stations making sure any rubbish is sorted correctly and can be completely recycled or composted.
Apart from being a music festival 'Making Waves' is a zero waste event with the hope of highlighting the dangers of single-use plastic. There are so many alternatives and we have teamed up with several different groups and businesses to show you these other, more eco-conscious options. In the next few days we will do a feature on each group involved to tell you a little more about how they are so environmentally friendly

Monaghan County Council’s Environmental Services and Glaslough Tidy Towns are delighted to announce that a unique not to be missed event will take place in the grounds of the Oakland Community Centre on Saturday night August 25th. In celebration of winning the National Tidy Towns competition 40 years ago, The Riptide Movement will play a very special concert to mark the occasion but also to re affirm County Monaghan’s and Glaslough’s commitment to a sustainable litter free environment.
The concert aims to be zero waste to landfill, one of the first events in the Country to try and achieve this. The Riptide Movement are “on board” so to speak with this approach. They are currently undertaking a concert tour, in collaboration with Clean Coasts Ireland, to raise awareness of the effects littering, especially plastic littering, is having on our marine and freshwater environments.
Speaking of the reasons behind doing the Coast to Coast Irish Tour and their upcoming concert in Glaslough, lead singer Mal Tuohy said:
‘We’re honoured that our music will help raise awareness to one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time, our reliance on single use plastics is destroying our oceans and freshwater environments, a reality so poignantly highlighted by David Attenborough in Blue Planet 2. Let’s make a real difference and stem the tide of plastic by banning single use plastics, introducing deposit refund schemes, implementing extended producer responsibility laws and by getting involved and supporting the great work carried out by organisations like Clean Coasts and Tidy Towns committees such as Glaslough. As the saying goes ‘there are plenty more fish in the sea’ but if we can’t stem the tide of plastic, by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans, ‘Plastic Oceans’ is a legacy no one wants to leave behind…..the future is in our hand”
According to Nial O’Connor, Environmental Services, Monaghan County Council; “Firstly, this event is about having fun. The Riptide Movement are a great Irish band and we look forward to welcoming them to Glaslough. An outdoor concert, in the beautiful surroundings of Glaslough village, at end of summer will be a great night’s entertainment. Secondly, we want to demonstrate with the support of The Riptide Movement that music events don’t have to “cost the earth.” Our intention, is to have a zero waste to landfill event, we will achieve this by using bio plastic and recycled plastic glasses in the bar area, having water bottle filling stations, sustainable transport from Monaghan Town and with the support of Glaslough Tidy Towns there will be litter control and waste segregation measures on the site. Furthermore, before the concert we will have an exhibition area comprising of some environmental campaigns including Greener Glaslough, #2minuteclean up, Junk Kouture, Dirt Dozen, Recycling Ambassadors Programme and Community Reuse Network, so that we can engage with concert goers on environmental issues in a fun but meaningful way.
Emlyn Cullen from An Taisce said “Clean Coasts and #2minutebeachclean / #2minutesteetclean are delighted that Making Waves, Monaghan County Council and the community in Glaslough have given us the opportunity to put across the message that our actions on land can have a devastating impact on our ocean and seas. 80% of marine litter comes for land based activity, as the litter we drop on land makes it’s way to the sea”
Gareth Corrigan, Chairperson of Glaslough Tidy Towns said “Glaslough are proud of our past achievements in the Tidy Towns competition and whilst we intend celebrating them the greatest legacy we can leave now is to ensure that there is still a pristine litter free environment in Glaslough for the next generation. I hope that this event will contribute to that legacy”
Tickets for the show are priced €18 (early bird price) and are available from the event’s Facebook page and website “Making Waves” or from Glaslough Community Centre.
The Riptide Movement’s new single “Plastic Oceans” is available on usual music platforms such as Spotify, Soundcloud, itunes and Google play

tidy towns

The Tidy Towns competition commences this month, which is the 60th year of the National Tidy Towns competition. Glaslough have been in the competition for 53 years. This year we commemorate our 40th Anniversary from winning the overall competition on the 27th of August 1978. Keep an eye over the next few weeks for exciting information on how we plan to celebrate this.
Meanwhile we wish to thank everyone for the fantastic support for tidy towns throughout the year and look forward to another great year for the village. Every bit counts whether it is sweeping your street, putting out floral displays, painting, power washing, planting, litter patrols or attending events it all counts. It really takes the whole community involvement. So thank you to everyone!!

Glaslough leading the way in Greener Glaslough Campaign

It was a busy weekend in Glaslough Village as the local community stepped up it’s campaign to becoming more environmentally friendly. Growing increasingly frustrated and tired of the throw away culture such as the increasingly problematic usage of single use plastics including disposable coffee cups which is proving to be national environmental scourge presently, Glaslough Tidy Towns decided to hold a weekend of exhibitions concentrating on waste prevention with particular emphasis on the reuse and repair of products and items that typically would have gone for disposal. There were many stands and exhibitors offering practical advice on repair and reuse, how to recycle correctly and how to prevent waste being generated in the first place. Some local businesses that promote/sell greener products/produce or pre-loved items were also in attendance.
The Greener Glaslough Exhibition and Fair was opened by Mayor of Monaghan County Council Cathy Bennett who also launched the new ‘Greener Glaslough brochure - A Guide to greener living’ which was produced for residents of Glalsough. Produced by Glaslough Tidy Towns in an effort to help promote greener living, the brochure offers tips and advice on how to be more environmentally friendly at home, work, school and in the community. It is a useful resource for residents and also provides useful information and examples of the various activities that the community of Glaslough are already doing to promote greener living.
Gareth Corrigan, Chairman of Glaslough Tidy Towns, said that The Greener Glaslough Exhibition and Fair was an excellent way of raising awareness about waste and the impact it is having on all aspects of everyday life by providing information and tips on how to reduce the waste we produce. The Chairman also said that the event was aimed at helping educate and inform people on the various issues surrounding waste practices whilst encouraging people to rethink waste and deal with it in a more environmentally friendly manner. At last weekend’s event there were numerous experts and professionals on hand on both days to answer questions of recycling, composting, food waste, water harvesting, greener tourism, gardening, and greener infrastructure amongst others. Officials from the Voice Ireland Recycling Ambassador programme, the Local Authorities Waters and Communities Office, and the Environmental Services of Monaghan County Council were some of public bodies that supported the event. Many people availed of the repair workshops for phones, tablets, laptops, clothes, guitars, jewellery and bicycles etc plus there was also great interest in the renewable energy stand. Gareth Corrigan said that he hoped that the Greener Glaslough campaign and brochure would help inspire people to consider waste production, reduction and elimination and to consider repairing or reusing things rather than throwing things away.
The full list of exhibitors that participated in the weekend exhibition in Glaslough were as follows:
Voice Ireland, Mc Elvaneys, New Gen Power, LAWCO, Drumlin Trails, Monaghan co co, Greener Glaslough, Glaslough Developmemt, St. Marys Green Schools, Glaslough Tidy Towns, Monaghan Climate Ambassador, Forever Living Clare Singleton, Sock Monkey by Rosa, New To You, The Crafty Cat, We R Toys, Crafty Irish Beggars, Forgotten Treasures by Glynis, Cní Chi Creates, Crafty Wee Ann, Moondot Music, Clothing Repair by Bernie, Tech IT Solutions, Magils Jewellery Repair, Lorraine Colleran, Paddy Mc Quaid bicycle repair

WILD BIRD FEEDING DURING WINTER

The current cold spell across the country is making life hard for our garden birds. As temperatures drop, the birds need to eat as much high energy food as possible to try to keep warm. Unfortunately, it is still too early for there to be many insects around, and most of the berries on garden trees and bushes have already been eaten. In situations like this, very often birds must make do with searching the ground for whatever seeds and scraps they can find; heavy snowfall, of course, will prevent them from doing even that. In an effort to ensure that as many of our feathered garden visitors as possible survive the current weather conditions, BirdWatch Ireland would like to encourage people to put out food for the birds that visit their gardens. It is very easy to do and will make it far easier for the birds to keep warm.
The menu is easy. Wild bird seed, peanuts and sunflower seed can found in local supermarkets and garden shops, as can the special wire or plastic feeders that they should be put in; these feeders can then be suspended from tree branches or a bird table. Apples, whether cut in half and speared on branches or just left out whole on the lawn, are also a great source of food, particularly for Blackbirds and other members of the thrush family, as well as Blackcaps (small warblers that have only recently begun to spend the winter in Ireland). Kitchen scraps, such as bacon rinds, cheese (particularly loved by Robins), suet, raisins, moistened bread, melon seeds, fruit, stale cake, cooked potato, oatmeal, fresh coconut and uncooked pastry, also make welcome meals. Fat is an especially important source of energy for birds, so please don’t waste it! Lumps of suet may be hung out on strings or in plastic mesh vegetable containers, and meat trimmings, bacon rinds and other scraps will also be eaten. Melted fat may be poured over bread or cake scraps to make “bird cake”. There are a couple of items which should never be fed to birds. These include desiccated (dried) coconut, uncooked rice or dry bread, which may swell up in the bird’s stomach. It is equally as important to ensure that your garden birds have a constant supply of fresh drinking water, something that can be very hard for them to find when ponds and puddles are frozen over. As well as needing to drink it, they also need it for bathing, to ensure that their feathers are kept clean so that they will insulate them effectively against the cold weather. A simple bird-bath can be made from an inverted dustbin lid sunk into the ground; remember to keep the surface ice free.

christmas lights for glaslough village
We would like to get the village looking as festive as possible this year for the community but to do this we need your help! You may have noticed that last year the village Christmas lighting was not working very well. Many of the lights are old and broken and just not fit for purpose any more. We are looking for donations towards replacing the lights/bulbs and would greatly appreciate your help no matter how small the donation. Every bit counts. The more we take in will hopefully allow us to not just replace the existing bulbs/lights but possibly add some new ones to help light up the village during the Christmas Season.
Envelopes were left in to the houses of the village along with this notice and for your convenience we will call back on Thursday 16th November or you can call to the Oakland Centre Mon-Fri before 1pm. Thank you.

bee friendly farming and pollinators
Some information for farmers and family's about bee friendly farming and pollinators.
"Pollinators are important to farmers who grow pollinator-dependent crops and to those of us who want to grow our own fruits and vegetables. Even if we don’t currently grow these crops, we should aim to retain the ability to do so for future generations. We know that 78% of our wildflowers also benefit from being pollinated by insects – without bees we will lose the colourful and distinct natural beauty of our landscape, which makes it a pleasant place to live, an attractive destination for tourists, and a selling point for our agricultural produce abroad" taken from www.biodiversityireland.ie

BEAUTIFUL GLASLOUGH

The "BEAUTIFUL GLASLOUGH" competition is underway. We had such a great response from last year when we launched the competition, we decided to hold it again this year. There will be two independent judges visiting the village to judge gardens, houses, housing estates, streets where you live and also the businesses in the village. These judges are not linked to the village so there will be no favourable results. Our aim within the village is to have it looking as it always does, BEAUTIFUL!!!!. We are asking that all home owners, residents and businesses to take care of the place where you live and own. The judges will be around in the next 10 days to view the village and results will be given out on the bank holiday Monday 7th august at 6pm in the Community Coach Garden. You could be in for a prize. So keep your area colourful with flowers and free from litter and you never know you could have the best house in your street or estate. Businesses also to keep their premises clean and tidy and you too could also have the best kept business in the village. So keep up the great work that you all do .
Thank you. Gareth Corrigan, Chairperson, Glaslough Tidy Towns Committee.

Entente Florale Europe 2017 Judging in Glaslough Village.

What a wonderful day in Glaslough on the 6th July for the ENTENTE FLORALE 2017 Jury adjudication. What an honour it was for Glaslough residents to have been one of just two villages in Ireland to be chosen to represent the Country. The children from Glaslough gave a welcoming rendition of Beautiful Glaslough backed by Packie Mc Ghee. Chairperson of Glaslough Tidy Towns and the Entente Florale Steering Committee opened the proceeding by welcoming the jury to Glaslough. Gareth then invited the Mayor of Monaghan County Council and Caoithaorleach Paudge Connolly to raise the Entente Florale flag with Chairperson of the jury Martin Wagner.
Commencing with a PowerPoint presentation in the Oakland Centre hosted by Shirley Clerkin Heritage Officer and Louise Duffy Tidy Towns volunteer and CE supervisor the jury examined all the plans both current and future for the village. The sun even managed to pop out for a while as the jury were taken around the village. They visited the Allotments where Martin Wood, a plot holder gave them some information about the allotments. Jackie Gormley Chairperson of GDA spoke to them about the Oakland Centre and playground where Donal Mc Elwaine spoke to the jury about the imminent upgrade and councils involvement in the playground. Denis Flannery Horticultural expert then spoke to them about the Butterfly and Biodiversity gardens and explained the educational importance and Biodiversity value especially in terms of facilitating pollination. Louise Duffy then gave the jury a detailed overview of the construction of the Coach Garden and how Diane and Ron Kendrick provided the tidy towns with this discussed area to develop a green open space for the community and visitors to enjoy. After boarding the bus the jury visited the Railway Sinal Cabin and then on out past Glennan Graveyard and Chapel.
On the way the jury also heard about the drumlins, Drumbanagher fort, the landscape and hedgerows etc. They then visited Glennan Presbyterian Church where they were given a brief history and tour of the grounds and Church by David Aiken. Driving on to the Glaslough Villa grounds. They were delighted to see all the children out at the summer camp and to hear about the clubs achievements. Indeed the jury were furnished with information about all 12 of the local community groups including both schools. The trip took in Hoeys Tree Trail and enabled the jury to view the agricultural landscape. Arriving at St Mary's school corner the delegation paused for a photo at the newly constructed welcome feature for Entente Florale with Mayor of County Monaghan Cathy Bennett, Municiple district members and the Entente Florale steering committee. Mark Macklin principal of St Marys then took the delegation around the school where the children spoke about all their Green flags, their biodiversity garden, trees, hedgerows, spinney, Can Train and mill, raised beds, water harvesting, insect hotel, pond etc. The jury were overwhelmed with the effort, interest and knowledge the children displayed. Nial O Connor environmental awareness officer from Monaghan County Council then spoke about the environmental education and support to the school. After departing St Mary's the delegation headed back into the Village green housing estate where Sammy Leslie gave the jury a brief overview of the development.
Walking from here the jury headed down the main street where they viewed the streetscape, architecture the diamond, rookery, signage, seating, kiosk and much more. As the moved down the Barrack Hill they remarked on the Pillar House building and planting schemes and especially the heritage planting at the rear. They were then treated to some ice-cream from Jeremy at Ambledown Cottages as they passed by. After viewing Lisbanagher houses and planting on the high banks the bus then proceeded to the Horse Pond where they heard briefly about the project to restore it and its significance in olden times. The jury were impressed at the new planting along the Caledon road and remarked at the flower displays at the graveyard and lynch gate. Also as the passed by Culbanagher and Ardbanagher estates they were delighted to see the effort made by residents to welcome them with the entente Florale colours!. The last few stops on the tour included the Integrated Constructed Wetlands were local engineer Dan Doody and Cathal Flynn and Mark Johnston from MCC explained about the wetlands. Gretta Mc Carron from LASCO also gave samples of the water quality in the area.
Finally the delegation were treated to a short walk around the wetlands and estate taking in the boat house, champion
trees, lake and much more. After deliberating for an hour the jury delivered very positive and constructive feedback to the committee. After which they were treated to a quick guinness at the Coach House Old Bar and some of the jury got to pull a few pints!.
The day concluded with a banquet laid on by local Executive Chef Don Mc Ghee assisted by CE members and local volunteers. Ciaran Teague tidy towns volunteer took great pride in welcoming the jury and invited guests and ensured that everyone got attended to at the banquette. All the guests in attendance included everyone who helped with Entente Florale and tidy towns in preparing for the competition. This included CE, Tus, Rural social scheme, Gateway, Men shed workers, also Dennis Flannery town gardener, the outdoor and administrative staff from Monaghan municipal district and our elected members. Speeches after the banquette were provided by Mayor Cathy Bennett, Caoithaorleach Paudge Connolly, Acting CEO of MCC John Murray, Cairperson of the jury Martin Wagner and Chairperson of Tidy Towns Gareth Corrigan. The jury were then presented with gifts by Mayor of Glaslough Anne Mc Ghee and children from Glaslough Junior Tidy Towns who also provided the music on the day.
We have been absolutely delighted and heartened by all this support and without which Glaslough Tidy Towns, GDA and the Entente Florale steering committee couldn't have had such a successful day and participation in the competition !!. A massive thank you to everyone and especially to the Paudge Connolly and all the elected members of Monaghan Council for their support and assistance. Also to Donal Mc Elwain, Municipal District Coordinator and Carol Lambe Community and Enterprise Officer who have done so much through this competition. What an experience this was!! Lastly but certainly not least we cannot forget all the support through messages, shares and likes on Facebook and social media. We have had so many messages over the past while it has been remarkable! We are truely so thankful and we just want to acknowledge this and say THANK YOU to everyone.
How proud we are to be from such a beautiful corner of Ireland in such a wonderful community of Beautiful Glaslough !!!
Finally Glaslough thanks all the Jury from accross Europe and to Eamon and Christy the Irish mentors through out the competition.
